Dungeon

Animated film, 2021, 7"07.

Text written by  Claudia Sugliano in the Magazine AW (Italia).
"[...]A good example of this is Jeremy Griffaud's video, Dungeon, profound and full of magic, presented in the historic West End Hotel on the Promenade des Anglais: it questions a typical aspect of today's society, the desire for celebrity, the desire to come out of the shadows into the light, "sometimes hoping to become that same light". The animated film, in addition to captivating us with its evocative images, first of the raging sea, then of the gloomy dungeon where some celebrities burn in the flames of hell, poses many questions awaiting answers and was made by working on photographs, found in magazines, books, posters. After tearing up these very material images, Griffaud photographed them and then reworked them into a fascinating personal work of art."

The proposal deals with an eminently characteristic trait of our current society, the desire for celebrity, or to put it differently, the desire to get out of the shadows to enter the light, sometimes even hoping to become this "light". The desire for celebrity seems to win over more and more individuals today; and this phenomenon has largely increased with the multiplication of information via social networks, reality TV, the multiplication of screens, and more generally, with all the strategies put in place by the society of the spectacle. In 1968, in the catalog of an exhibition at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Warhol wrote: "In the future, everyone will have the right to 15 minutes of worldwide fame. "Indeed, from now on, everyone can claim a form of celebrity if they wish. But what kind of fame is it? What for? And with what consequences? Dungeon is an animation made from photographs of photographs. The elements that make up the film come from prints found in magazines, books, and posters. These images, degraded or even torn, are marked by materiality. They were photographed before being reworked and animated.
Dungeon

Film d'animation, 2021, 7"07.
